I think I will just continue this thread rather than start a new one. Although all the photo bucket photos will be forever lost, and unfortunately the photo journalism associated like "the deer and the fish story"
, there is still some extremely valuable content
, i.e., like YouTube videos.
So yes, I am switching to imgur for now, but how long before they do the same thing as photo bucket?
Regarding the photo bucket debacle, I am not surprised that they would switch to "paid" third-party hosting. However, the $399 fee was over the top. I may have paid $50 annually or something like that, but not $399. They probably have gotten a few subscribers, but IMO they would've gotten 10 times or 100 times more if they would've made the fee reasonable. I believe it's too late now, people have been chased off and are angry about this ransom. Too bad for them. I wonder if photo bucket will survive?
Here's a question for you smart people, why the fuck can we just buy a domain to host our own photos that has all the code to embed them in forum posts? Hmmm, why? That's what I want.
Here are imgur posting instructions from an imjur forum post:
This actually already exists! Imgur should really make light of this as a more obvious feature!
If you take your image URL and add a specific letter to the end of it, it will alter the size for you
Take your URL of an image such as
http://i.imgur.com/7iNNs3Th.jpg2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; then add a specific letter to the end of it before the .jpg!
I guess this isn't too well known!
s = Small Square (90×90)
b = Big Square (160×160)
t = Small Thumbnail (160×160)
m = Thumbnail (320×320)
l = Thumbnail (640×640)
h = Thumbnail (1024×1024)
As far as I can tell, it still retains the aspect ratio, so it won't make your stuff square, just shrink it till one both of the sizes are at, or below, the 1024x1024 values etc.
In my own words here's what that means:
Copy the “BBCode (message boards & forums)”. In other words click the blue “Copy” button just below and to the right of this.
Paste it into your forum post. It will look like this but will have
at the rear of the URL.
http://i.imgur.com/tRWWmIt.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Using the secret code from above add a single letter like this, again it will have
at the rear of the URL.
In this case I added the letter “h” = Thumbnail (1024×1024)
http://i.imgur.com/tRWWmIth.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Yes, it's that simple. Not too bad.
What I haven't figured out yet in imgur is setting up a file structure. I had done with photo bucket.
For example
Folder - RZ500
>Sub Folder – Engine
>Sub Folder – Electrical
>Sub Folder – Powder Coat
Etc.
Has anybody done this in imgur?
Here is an example using the instructions from above:
