Going under the knife !!

#1 Post by rztom » Sun Dec 07, 2014 5:09 pm

Cross-posting this on both forums....

Hi guys... Just wanted to let you all know I will be off the radar for the next week or so, as I am having a total knee replacement on my right knee (yeah, the kick-start one... :smt011 ), this Tuesday (Dec. 9th). I will then be sporting new titanium and plastic hardware!

Any lurkers out there who sign up for fourm membership during this time, your activation may be delayed, so please understand.

Any of you peeps had this done, or know of someone who has? I would be interested in hearing about your experience.

Wish me luck!! :smt004

good luck Tom! A mate of mine who is a concreter had it done, he is amazed by how quick he bounced back and also how good his knee is now. he can walk downhill without worry now, before that he hated coming to my house as the driveway is on a hell of a slope. you will need to keep off it and do what the docs say, but if you follow the instructions then you will be fine, but isnt that always the way LOL! Anyway, enjoy the time with your feet up, and dont buy too much on ebay during that time!

Yeah, I'm trying to hang on as long as possible with my bad right knee - but I'll have to have a total knee, as well.

I've probably done anesthesia for at least 100 total knees, so I know some stuff.

I told my Mom NOT to have her knee done until she lost weight. She didn't listen and she's WORSE off after the surgery.

So, there's my first advice. Get as close to your IBW as possible BEFORE having knee or back surgery - maybe the most important factor for a successful recovery.

Good luck, Tom!!

I know someone who was quite bowlegged from years of knee abuse, football, motocross etc. who had a double replacement last year. First thing he had to do was get new pants, he's 2 inches taller with straight legs. His only other complaint is kneeling on a hard floor can be quite painful. He's also harder to keep up with now.

Good luck with it!
