Catastrophic failure

#1 Post by hybrid » Fri Feb 03, 2017 9:44 pm

Hi all,
yesterday at around 4pm Sydney Summer time (currently GMT +11), my hosting provider had massive failure on the system hosting my server.
The end result was that they lost everything.

Tom and I had worked together to do daily backups and store them elsewhere, so we're back online now.
I will be slowly working to make sure we get back to where we were.

Thank you for your efforts, just the other day there was a discussion about the last complete loss, and my first reaction logging in today was "Boy, this really shit itself..".

Yep, big thank you to you both for your efforts.

So easy to loose this kind of information.

Most of the praise goes to Jeff - he's my man behind the curtain :smt024

Me - I don't have any fingernails left [smilie=swoon.gif] But, having a good backup plan is key in these situations - and we had one.

Thanks to the group for your patience and understanding!! :smt023

Looks like this site was hijacked by a Aussie Mustang club..

The 350 site half way woks for me, but when browsing the 500 forum, I can confirm the Aussie Mustang hack :-(

On the 350 site I get errors like this:
phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file [ROOT]/includes/session.php on line 87: htmlspecialchars(): charset `files' not supported, assuming utf-8
which disappear when modifying the URL by deleting the sid=xxx part.
Bye

Jeff also runs the Aussie Mustang forum, its on the same server I suspect so it makes sense to see some of that if the links are not quite right. 2stroksedownunder seemed unaffected tho so maybe thats hosted elsewhere?

Guys,

Unless it has happened to them, I don't think most people realize how much work it is to recover a site like this. We tend not to even think about what our admins go through on a daily basis, let alone the hours & stress to get past a major data loss.

Thanks guys for your ongoing efforts. We appreciate it.

What is the URL you are using for the 500 forum? It's fine for me.
The htmlspecialchars issue is because of a newer PHP version on the rebuild. I will fix that today.

My guess is that for the 500 forum you were using rzrd500.com instead of http://www.rzrd500.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I've created a vhost for rzrd500.com now as well, so it will go to the right website.
