Weird issue

#1 Post by vmx51 » Sun Dec 14, 2014 11:18 am

I have an RZ350 that I have been tidying up , but not really messed with anything. I have it on the bench right now. Yesterday I was being idle and turned the key on to hear the powervalve cycling , which it did.I then was checking the headlight , when I swith from high to low beam , the powervale cycles. How can that be ??? I have done nothing to it electrically other than plug in a new ignition black box.

Check all ground points and ground wires. All I can think of.

Quite possibly a weak battery. The voltage increase going from hi beam to low may trick the servo into thinking it has just been switched on. Put a voltmeter on it to check.

Check charging voltage while you're at it. Should be around 14V with a fully charged battery.

+1
Or a loose earth bolt on the regulator or loose batt terminal. Check for at least 13V at batt. at idle with all lights off.
If the problem persist after 1/2h ride time, get a new batt.

I had a weird issue last summer while riding with a Garmin Montana GPS. It would work fine then start rebooting and flickering. GPS ran on bike power and had a built-in battery. I finally pulled off to the side of the road and noticed my headlight to be dim as well. I pulled the side cover and discovered the battery + wire was loose under the battery bolt. A quick tighten fixed everything. Vibration is not your friend....
