Ck'd the side stand this AM and noted a lot of lateral play (2-3mm). Suspect the hole for pin/axle has worn into an oblong shape. Initially I thought adding washers would pull it away fm the pipe - think not. A spot of weld perhaps? Don't know yet.

you can drill and bush it as well. thin spacers (washers) will help with side to side movement.

I have the same microns on my lc and when i bought the bike the spring was hitting the pipe also. I removed the stub on the stand ,shoetened it enough so it no longer hit the pipe and rewelded it to the stand .

2cycle curious on how short did you go? Also, do you live any where near Redline Junkie (Rob)? Also got a bro who races at Shubie.

I shortened it as much as i could with still enough room for the spring hook to fit. Rob lives about 20min from me on the other side of the harbour. I go to shubie every year to watch the superbike nationals.

Bare discovered something else well worn; the knife section of the hinge was worn on the lower right hand corner (5 0'clock area). Added a bit of weld to build it up & filed it flat.

Nexted I noted the holes, for the hinge, were oblong. Purchased door hinge bushings to true up the holes again ($5). The bolt was also well worn adding to the sloppy angle problem - replaced ($1). Drilled out the holes, for the bushings and punched them in. Drilled out the bushings to match the new bolt & filed the hinge knife flat to match the stand. Put it together and the stand spring nub/retainer is 4mm off the Microns. Done hopefully for the next 30 yrs Jon - if I last that long (lol).

Nice job :smt023

My side stand has a different problem. Powder coat frame + powder coat side stand = very tight and hard to move!!!

powedercoat is easy, just file it out or locally apply paint stripper with a small brush.

Thx gents. Power coating.....Powder coated the swing arm and when I put in the 1st bolt in, next 2 the rear sprocket, for the chain guard - SNAP, three 1/2 turns in. I had to remove the rad, to remove the exhaust, to remove the chain, to remove the rear wheel, to drill out the wee hole to re-tap because of power coat. Using POR 13 next (holes covered) or Tremclad paint - not perhaps as resilient as powder coat but not as frustrating either. Now off to fix those pesky twins (carbs).

Damn... that must be frustrating.
Also why Powdercoating is widely viewed with Distaste.
Sadly a typical Newbie affectation.
A rattle can of Appliance Epoxy (that's what the silly label says) looks identical to oem Yama cheap ass paint, but far more durable
EASILY works /looks better than Powdercoating.

Bit late now though.
