Securing ur Elsie

#1 Post by LC Cnd » Sun Dec 03, 2017 2:45 pm

Noted the sad news that happened to Lea Norbo this week got me thinking that I could be victimized in the same manner. I started looking for a disc brake lock to combo with the steering lock LC in the garage or on the street. This action does not stop someone dragging my bike into a truck but why make it easy by rolling it in. Unfortuately all the disc locks I found required a drilled out rotor and a not stock Elsie one. Further research found that the Master 2 1/4 inch combination pad lock fits nicely on the rotor at $20 Cnd as noted in the photo. Hopefully this helps prevent further loss. Might work on RZ's also. Added the link for the lock but suspect it could be found cheaper elswhere. PS - 0350 is not the combination I chose.

If they want something that bad nothing will stop them. I heard of crocks using a cordless recip-saw to cut through garage doors to gain access. Only thing that will stop them is a load of 00 buck shot!

the more obstacles in their way the better.
the more of a pain you can make it the more likely they will move on to an easier target.
but as above all the deterrents will only keep an opportunist thief away.

Steering locks on , heavy chain and lock on each , locked in shed, motion detector lights. And four dogs on the loose!!!
I still had my power mirror turn signal stolen off my truck the other night . Left it outside the gate..duh!! I even saw the guy clock my truck as I turned into my street , I thought he was looking at me odd.. I know why now., he was thinking " that will do nicely thank you."
I recently did some jury duty which meant leaving the bike in town. I was so paranoid I fitted box on the back just so I could carry an even bigger chain and lock.
It's a bit of a problem over here too.

Had an unwanted visit to my lock up some months ago . lucky for me nothing taken. Paranoid , set in and I bought new locks ,disc locks and chain. I also bought some flat steel 80mmx8mm and made a couple of ground anchors . when I got the one anchor installed I bought a length of Pewag 14mm chain and this stuff defeats bolt cutters. yes a battery grinder will cut through most things but remember these scum/ human garbage like quiet . Oh I live in the UK and the ptb don't like you taking the law into your own hands . Over the years firearms have been denied us ,I still miss my various pistols.

there has been a lot of doorstep thefts of package's and one guy made an exploding dog shit parcel rigged witha proximity switch.
as the thief drove away ,,poof all over him and the inside of the car .. lovely.
care should be taken on the amount of propellant used ,but i loved the idea.

LCs are not worth enough in Canada to make them a target for thieves. They are also a speciality motorcycle these days so who, other than nutters like us, would want one?

I lock all my bikes together with heavy duty plastic coated cables and cable locks. Its not foolproof but it stops someone walking away with them on a whim.

:smt006 I have never worried too much about having my bikes stolen..... might be a mistake. I saw an ad on Kijiji a while back looking for people who wanted their bikes in movies and TV commercials. They wanted vintage and unique bikes....
BIG RED FLAG.... what better way to find out where your target bikes are located. I can see it now.... "Send us your name address phone number and a picture of your FORMER bike." :smt006 :smt022

Thought of putting a tracking devise, in my bike like a low-jack, but understand the service is no longer available in Canada - used to be a yearly fee.

As above.. our Old Ymas aren't Nearly as Precious as they seem to be in Museum UK.
Lots better/more valuable things about for thieves looking for profit.
That said; My bike is either under me or in my garage.

Bare, I like that idea. I ride my RZ almost daily in the summer months, and it sits out front of the bike shop while I work. It gets some attention and comments.
