I'd LOVE to see some of these infused with modern technology. I have good reason to suspect it would far surpass its original 140hp rating and still hold together season after season. It certainly needs a better clutch..

But we can already go bigger than the 750 with RZ/LC/Banshee engines, with the aid of billet cases and aftermarket cylinders. I'm looking at a 771, and I found a combination for a mind-numbing 1144cc setup (that warrants further investigation..)

I think the ultimate street/strip/track would be a TZ punched out to 1000cc, in a R1 or R6 frame, with an emphasis on light weight and mass centralization.

Found a company making repro cases for he TZ750.. no price listed.

Allthough Id guess north of $5,000

Like the saying goes- If you gotta ask how much it is, you cant afford it!

My RZ350 won't be my only Yamaha 2 stroke any more....
The process has begun to bring in a crate from Japan....
Which will hold the bike I've been dreaming about since 1984......

And eventually into my garage......RZV500..... :smt007

Good to hear...now that you can legally bring them into the U.S and register them... 100% legally, without having to do any " funny business" it's opened the door. My long term goal is to score a NSR250 MC21 or a RGV or TZR. Only downside is prices have escalated.

Your garage...I know the feeling. I sold my house & now all my bikes, garage tools, furniture etc.. are all inside a 40' off shore container...that's my workshop now.

Like to see your RZV, easily one of the best looking bikes of the 80s

Now that you are getting a RZV500. You will need a RG500 or RG400. When I first got my RZV500 a member on this board said. You will need an RG500 so you can see how the RZV500 should have been done. In all seriousness the RG500 is a lot of fun.

This will be the first JDM bike I wil bring in legally and in one piece....all the others have been brought in piece by piece to get past EPA/DOT.
But yes, anything over 25 years is free to cross over here now. Which has made the prices rise in Japan by quite a bit, making it hard to find a clean (most bikes are left outside during many years of their lives in Japan....corrosion) affordable example...then add shipping and import taxes.....and so on....

I had made an offer on a RG500 that was formerly on Ebay and did not sell.
I threw out an offer...he bumped it up $500...and I agreed, but wanted to see a video of the bike running, and pic with the bodywork off....
....and he quit responding.
I considered a RG400 from Japan as they are relatively cheap in comparison...
But I knew I would not be happy with it being ONLY a 400....and a steel frame would not do with a RZ/RD500
So the RZV was was my target, since RG500's have gone way beyond what I'm willing to pay in the current market.
For the price of a RG500, I'd rather spend a few $$$ more and get a Bimota Vdue....

I think a TZ250 is in my future next though :smt007

I read a magazine back in the 80's it had in the front cover. A NS400R, RZV500 and a RG500. It said something what you see you can't have. Well I have all three of them. I can say the RG500 is by far out of the three the best. It gives you a sensation closer to a race bike. I have several 250. I have the TZR2503XV SP and the TZR2503MA SP. The 3MA SP is really top end bike. It does feel like a race bike.

I would not close the door on the RG400. I would check with Rick Lance. I heard the RG400 has more room for improvement. Rick would know better.

It will need a lot of work but it only has 6200 miles on it.....more clean up than total rebuild......I hope.
I finally own one.... :smt055

Congrats!
They are heavy pig, fun bikes. Just don't push it too hard. They are very unforgiving when you are on the edge.

It has the aluminum frame and other aluminum/magnesium bits, which save some weight over the standard RZ/RD500
But yea.....it is old and heavy no matter how you look at it 30+ years on....

Nice addition .
I was looking at the ali frame and thinking how skinny it is compared to a 87 fzr frame.
with only a couple of years difference in production.

Hello, my name is David. I'm thinking I may hate you. Maybe we should swap emails and we can send penhatepal messages?

A mate has a VJ23 derestricted in same colours which is cool. And an RZ500 in his lounge on 17s with pipe etc but due to go in a 3MA frame. They look good std I must say.

Yea, technology moved forward at an incredible rate during the 80's into the early 90's....unlike any other decade it seems.

I love my VJ23....to look at and ride....have you rode your friends?
My RZV will stay close to what the factory started with....The 3MA frame route is the cool way to go if you have enough patience and skill to take the project to the end.
But I figure, original never goes out of style....and it's easier in this case to get on the road and get smoking as Yamaha intended
