Re: RDLC crank needed.
My pick would be OEM if they are complete substitutes. Hot rods appear to be good but I don't think I have ever heard of a OEM early early failure wereas hot rods you hear about the very occasional one. Overall both good options...
Re: RDLC crank needed.
Hot Rods cranks use Chinese bearings, not good!
Evan is very correct. Can not beat an OEM crank.

Wasnt there a video of the new hot rods factory where it said everything was USA made?

Re: RDLC crank needed.
Progress has been slow on my rebuild. Hope to get things going this weekend on the reassembly. I took my cases to a local machine shop in Newmarket to have them machined. They wanted me to remove all the studs (cylinder and crank case). Some of them snapped and were a pain to get out, but I got them all out. Then in the meantime the shop got busy and my job was put on the back burner.
Fast forward a few weeks and my dad found an engine shop in Ballantrae that actually takes the Hot Rods cranks and machines the outside halves to make them close to the same as a stock LC crank. The cost was around $120.00 I was kinda skeptical but he usually does around 10 a year with no problems reported so I will see.
I will post some pics of the machines crank this weekend when I am home.

Re: RDLC crank needed.
How is an RZ crank better than an LC crank? Other than the width difference they seem essentially the same.
Doesn't Wiseco make cranks?
If you search for Banshee Crank it appears there are several places in the US? making or at least selling cranks

Re: RDLC crank needed.
Erm RZ/banshee cranks are beefieir IE: Big ends are 1 mm wider Which Alone makes for a superior / well worth having crank design .. but there are other improvements.. Research ?Hooligan wrote:How is an RZ crank better than an LC crank? Other than the width difference they seem essentially the same.

Only 2 flavours of New 350 Cranks in existence.. those made by/for Yamaha, sold as Genuine Yama Parts (and yes ! these can still be bought brand new)
and those made in various flavours of shoddy south east Asian factories. (Wiseco claims are laughably transparent )
ALL of which imo are poor to bad units.. Brochure babbles notwithstanding , with erm... reduced lifespans and unlikely possibilty of being rebuilt
Do you Really ? wanna save 200 $ Here?
Re: RDLC crank needed.
A relatively short time on Google shows there are at least 5 companies selling Banshee cranks.

Re: RDLC crank needed.
anyone has any experience with Vito crank I am looking to drop a 500$ into a +4MM stroker
thanks
thanks
Re: RDLC crank needed.
also Taiwan I believe
Re: RDLC crank needed.
I have a crank that came with Vito's crank seals, that leads me to think its probably a vitos crank, tho hot rods was mentioned when I was buying it. It looks ok and the engine has run, but Ive not got millions of kms on it.
I would really just buy the OEM crank if you want normal stroke. Its made in Japan and OEM, for our bikes thats really all you need to know. Anything else is really just a copy, knock off, perhaps even a fake... ahh, there i said it!
Wicked was doing cranks as well recently and if i wanted something different to standard I'd ask him what he offers, at least when he says American Made, it really is. Im not convinced that Hot Rods, Vitos etc etc are. Not that imho everything made in America is wonderful, but the yanks do seem to like to hear that phrase. Aussies seem to like hearing 'Aussie made' for their stuff too I guess, but back in the day in the UK we all thought Made in England meant it was crap, that attitude helped kill our engineering industry of course. That was 'our bad' (as they say on TV) and I dont recommend that to any nation. So, having national pride is good.... if its warranted

Re: RDLC crank needed.
So I got my machined Hot Rods crank back it it looks pretty good. They basically shaved off the protruding ring on each outer half.
I re-assembled the engine with all new oem seals and have my freshly bored cylinders ready to go with the Pro-x pistons. I didn't use the expander ring they came with as I read about too many failures with them. Just have to do a pressure test once I get some plugs for the exhaust ports
