I haven't done any for a few decades, did a stint as a laminator in the UK, Indy Cars. I wanted to explore it again on my own projects so started collecting equipment. A friend nearby has an oven he built for powdercoating, big enough for anything I would make. You really only need an autoclave for structural stuff, bodywork under vacuum cured in an oven is plenty sufficient. You can buy prepreg from Composites Canada, probably plenty of other sources but they're not far from me.evan_calgary wrote: Ruzty: Where did you find prepreg? I always wanted to mess around with some of that but did not know of an autoclave I could use!

And that's the key, I would have no interest in making a carbon fender for an R1 to sell to someone that is considering a made in China one off Ebay for $100, it's not worth my time. BMW had an S1000rr at the last Toronto motorcycle show with their carbon body kit on it and the fairing lower was around a grand. You don't knock out a part that good in a couple of hours. That might be the other end of the rainbow, but people shopping for that level of quality appreciate that they are buying something special that took more care to produce, like your CBR parts. Most guys that are actually racing with their own money have no desire to spend a fortune on bodywork that might be sliding down the road next week.RC45 wrote: The point being that is possible to have presentation quality race bodywork, the manufacturer just has to take the time to do it right.
Hopefully at some point a good manufacturer will see fit to make some really good YZR500 style bodywork - the big question will be whether people will be prepared to pay for such quality.
Re: Airtech rz350 yzr go bodywork
For anyone not on the 500 board, RC45 has some projects done and in progress that many of us would give a body part for. No half measures here.evan_calgary wrote:Random. RC45 pops his head in on this discussion.

Well aware of rc45. He pops his head in all over different boards to show off his bikes. Just odd discussion for him to pop into.

And that lower cost race bodywork often comes with that disclaimer up front.RuZty wrote:And that's the key, I would have no interest in making a carbon fender for an R1 to sell to someone that is considering a made in China one off Ebay for $100, it's not worth my time. But even in the CBR realm some of the locally sourced race bodywork may be cheap but it is a bear to install while others (Motocarbons) fit well and are reasonably priced. I went out on a limb for the Cleverwolf stuff because they are the only guys with endurance HRC pieces.
I often (randomly) stick my head into Airtech discussions mostly because I think the stuff Dutch produces often gets an undeserved bad rap - its race body work first and foremost, and as far as race bodywork goes it is some of the better stuff out there - and to be honest, the bikes we try copy had light weight race bodywork back in their day as well :)evan_calgary wrote:Well aware of rc45. Totally agree with you there! It wasn't a knock just surprised to see you pop into this discussion! The stuff is good for street bodywork as well just requires some finishing. The fit between the upper and lower was great for Race and the overall finish is ready for a prime when it arrives. Not OEM quality but it is pretty cool they offer a custom modern looking fairing for under a grand!
Re: Airtech rz350 yzr go bodywork
Anyone want to unload their body work?
Re: Airtech rz350 yzr go bodywork
Where are you located? Country?
I missed all this discussion. Concourse paint? Don't use anyone's fibreglass. If you use fibreglass, use rattle cans and paint yourself.
I really like AirTECH stuff. That's why I'm trying to make it available in Canada. I'm a racer, and it's race glass. Great for changing the look of a stock bike. Easily replaced or repaired. Light weight. Simplifies the rear end, and eliminates passenger capability. These bikes don't like passengers.

Re: Airtech rz350 yzr go bodywork
I might possibly be interested in selling off one of my YZR kits with a
( possible trade + cash only).
I want a race replica, but a more realistic Delta box frame /alum , no longer with the RZ frame. The frame is just fine for trackwork, but it's all looks Im after, I'm p finicky about appearances and after a year of looking cannot locate a reasonably priced TZR 250 3MA or Aprilla RS250 frame/chassis, so tempted to go O.G. RZ and Rock the original streetfighter /cafe look.
What I'd possibly be interested in is trade plus some cash on top for:
1.) Stock or fiberglass upper bikini fairing.
And
2.) Stock or Fiberglass Chin spoiler.
Only in perfect stuctural condition, NO cracks, No major damage, paint condition does not matter.
Let me know, If I decide to go that route, it might work out.
