triumph tt600 fan earth issue

Hi all, i have a triumph tt600 and the fan is not coming on .
i now have a bad earth code for the fan.
i have put 12 volts to it and it spins.
but cant find the earth issue ,
everything else works.
if i run extra earth from the fan to say the battery or frame will i hurt anything.

You can't hurt anything by running another earth wire.

Odd that the fan would suddenly lose its earth. Maybe the thermo unit? Or perhaps a bad connector? They seem like the most obvious things.

thanks , my experience with wiring etc is pretty limited,
i can follow a diagram and do basic installs .
