mirror stem rubber

For the 89 rz 350
Has anyone figured out how to get the rubber, that seals the hole that the mirror stem goes through the cowling, to lay flat?

If you look at NOS mirrors they actually have two way tape to stick to the fairing. I was going to take a picture but I'm too lazy. Aftermarket mirrors do not have this.

Glue is the only solution as the tape isnt on the rubber like the OEM mirrors..
