Add Kerosene?
This evening read this in the comments on a Kawi S1 350 restoration vid. Read one comment that ethanol free gas has interestly disappeared in the UK. Has anyone followed this recipe with good results? Seems more efficient that trying to remove the ethanol using two jerry can method. Note governments in north america are boasting about upping ethanol in gas - hmm.
"Ethanol contaminated fuel causes all 2 strokes to rapidly overheat, lose power, emit excessive smoke & heat seize. This is because adding just 5% ethanol to fuel, drops the boiling point down from 35 degrees C to 18 degrees C, which causes poor combustion. This can be fixed by adding anywhere from 30:1 to 40:1 diesel or kerosene, to raise the fuel's boiling point back up to safe levels again. I've been doing this for 4 years now, on all my 2 stroke road bikes"

More internet nonsense. If any of that was true we would be seeing the damage here daily.
As with most things on the internet, if it sounds ridiculous, it probably is.

Re: Add Kerosene?
I'm with John on this one.
I have not had problems with our California ethanol fuel. I believe we are at 10% maybe even 15%. I certainly would prefer non-ethanol but it is non existent here.
If anyone tests this theory please post your results here.

Re: Add Kerosene?
I once had some old fuel left from the RD and filled it into the VTR1000.
Man that smelled sooo good running a fourstroke on 1:40
T5 drivers sometimes add twostroke oil to their diesel fuel in order to clean the injection system / fuel pump.
Diesel drivers add gasoline to prevent it from freezing in winter.
But the only cases I heard where people added diesel into a gasoline engine, it was those bellends not being able to read whats written on the pump.

I run nothing but 94 with Ethanol in my bike. I do add a splash of race gas because I love the smell plus you get the added lubrication from the lead. I run nothing but 94 in my car and it helps with detonation. I've run an 11.55@118mph at the track and that is with a 1.88 60ft and an unlocked converter. Locked converter will easily put me in the low 11's at over 120mph, but I don't have a cage and don't want to be kicked off the track and banned.

Re: Add Kerosene?
Bought 94 ethanol free (supposedly) yesterday. Hope that continues. Race fuel - what the cost per gallon or litre and at what ratio do you use for the mixture?
Re: Add Kerosene?
Seems to me that adding Kerosene or Diesel would lower the octane level significantly. Also, it seems to me that removing the ethanol from an E10/E15 gasoline blend would also lower the octane rating significantly. In the Ethanol/Gasoline blend, the ethanol IS the anti-knock component. In non-ethanol blends there are other, less environmental anti-knock components like MTBE.
Re: Add Kerosene?
Water in gas with ethanol will mix with ethanol and this mix will separate from gas
Re: Add Kerosene?
I ...Must.. run Chevron 94 in My 2 strokes since early 2000's (94 chevron has Zero Ethanol)
My Shindaiwa Lawn gear 2 stroke engines run like Shit on Any Ethanol laced gasolines.
Even the Local Shindaiwa Distributor suggests using only Ethanol Free fuels.
It's not the Octane rating that's the issue But the Ethanol content.
Chevron 94 is the only widely available ethanol free fuel in MY part of the world.
When even the lawn care gear protests... it's a pretty good suggestion to avoid Ethanol.

Re: Add Kerosene?
What about if you add Bleach. I've heard good things. Kills detonation in one minute.
Too soon?
Don't add bleach. Has to be said.

In Brazil, we have 27% of ethanol added to gasoline. This has an explanation, in the past, lead (Pb) was used added to gasoline as an additive, this would reduce the excess carbonization, naturally caused by pure gasoline (type "C"), and vehicles developed more HP. As Pb is toxic and carcinogenic, in the 80's it was replaced by ethanol. Ethanol in type "C" gasoline are fundamental, they work as an "additive", reducing carbonization, and with that, avoiding a phenomenon that here in Brazil we call "knocking", or technically speaking, "pre-detonation ". An option here in Brazil is to use high-octane gasoline (it has a lower percentage of ethane, although "common gasoline", as it is called here, works well), easily found at gas stations, or, as ethanol has the higher octane than gasoline, just lower the cylinder head by 0.3mm, and advance the ignition point by about 3 to 7°. Originally, the Brazilian RD350s do not have the 3rd jet, the PowerJet, only the pilot jet and the main jet. Here, the pilot jet is #27.5 and the main jet is #250 (although I use "flatslide with Powerjet" carburetors, lol... ) The Brazilian RD350, original from the factory, have 55HP @9500 RPM, and the RD350 ( or RZ... ), they have 63HP @9500, this is due to the type of gasoline and also the configuration of the cylinder Head and carburetors, which in Europe, promote more HP. Here we make RD350 engines "turn" around 75HP, with some preparations that are mandatory to use ethanol as fuel, precisely because its octane rating is higher than that of gasoline. At a high performance level, ethanol is superior to gasoline.

Re: Add Kerosene?
If you remove the ethanol from the fuel, your octane level will drop..
I've just done a 4000km trip on my old 1955 250cc two-stroke DKW without any fuel related problems (A few vintage motorcycle related problems off cause).
And my RD350 31k runs fine on fuel with 5-10% ethanol...
I'd say don't worry about it unless you park the bike for 6 months or something. The fuel does go bad quite quickly.

Re: Add Kerosene?
I was using 100LL from the local airport as storage fuel since I don't get to ride often. But have recently switched to 90 non ethanol pump gas for storage fuel and all my small engines and my Farmall A mowing tractor. So far so good. The price increases is what drove the change.
