Lots of choices on engine kits for the RZ - Useful links

#1 Post by jzanutto » Tue Aug 13, 2013 2:11 am

I'm considering one of the hotrod kits like the Cheetah or similar big bore kits. I'd like to avoid modifying my cases, so which of the direct bolt-on kits have you guys seen perform well for an overall balanced streetable machine? Some come with the carbs. Also which pipes would I need to get for it?
I have Bassanis now

I'd like to hear from anyone who has done it or helped someone do it

thanks in advance

...or you could have a google / search the site...

Not being funny, but we seem to get this same question about once a month. Can someone pin one of those threads to the top of this forum I wonder? else shall we add links here and pin this one?

A 421cc, 4mm stroker and 68mm bore is the largest bolt-on kit out there. There are lots to choose from. If you are a little more performance minded the Cheetah cub cylinders are the way to go. This is my personal preference. With the proper setup it is a reliable & driveable motor. The exhaust pipes are probably the most critical component to make a smooth tractable power delivery. I am developing pipes specifically for these engines. I have extensive knowledge in both the RZ & Banshee engines.
There are plenty of other options out there as well & having tested all of them I still prefer the Cheetah cub's setup.

you will need new pipes.... case mods are easy... for larger cranks if thats the way you want to go..

as far as bolt on go with a 4mm athena or similar.... they seem to be good value and fun per dollar

still sorting through them

I started with yours, and I got pulled into the wicked powerports site and sent him an email. I am waiting for his response.

I'd also be open to buying someone's "old" motor if they are moving up to the next level of insanity

Sadly doing it properly is never cheap, but do the work yourself and spread the cost, and / or buy stuff used (or new unused - see L.B.'s ad in the For Sale section etc) and you can save money.

I got 2300 miles on my 421cc now and no regrets. I hadn't $4000 either but i really wanted the kit. I sold a few bits that I didn't need to help fund the project. I ordered the Athena kit and a clutch kit from Roger in the Winter and built the motor. Then in the Spring I ordered pipes, bought some V-Force reeds and a pingle petcock. I have since added carbs & billet intake. Now I'm gonna turn it into a hybrid. If thats your goal, you'll figure it out, just keep plugging away.. Good luck, Keep us posted on your progress... :smt006

I just built a 421 engine with the kit from Roger at Wicked for just under $2000. And that was with the new billet head for the Athena cylinders. The motor runs real hard now!! But the hit is a little higher up in the RPM range. 7000-10500
I'm loving it!!
