I used a bunch of small zip-ties and they worked well.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
No more ratchety stuttering thing going on with the bike. I am confessing to poor chain alignment when I converted from the FZR 18" to the SV 17" wheel.
Today I handed off the GS500 sprocket carrier to Julian at about 10AM and had it back at about 11:30AM. Final adjustment was to remove 3mm. Now I will say the chain alignment is spot on, at least with my tooling to verify. Thank you Julian, much appreciated.
Here's another small upgrade. The fan switch used to be mounted to the charcoal canister bracket which I removed before PC. So more aluminum and SS fasteners brought it up to the "dashboard". I added a cool metal bezeled sealed LED to show ON.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
Here's a video from last weekend. The rebuilt bike/engine has about 200 miles on it now. Waiting for a new batch of jets to arrive Monday.
But totally satisfied with all the work I did to this engine and bike.

Uh oh Ken... it's running too well...
Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
Possibly. I looked at my inventory of jets wanting to go from 360 to 380. I like to jump 20 when going up to ensure change has been effected. My next up size was 400. Scratched my head a bit and decided to put them in. It ran like poo almost like there was a rev limiter around 7500 RPM. Good experiment though. I'll post a short video if I get to it. I'll drop to 380 or 370 next week and see how it goes. My prediction is I end up back at 360.
Still waiting for the Fox Shock from Super Plush (not Evolution, can't even remember where I sent it it's been so long) He said he would get to it last week. We'll see.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
Jetting experts...
My first running of this engine was with 360 mains and it ran very good, although I was breaking it in so no full throttle runs. Since I thought it might be running too good, and the next bigger size I had was 400. I put them in and had a rev limiter at 7-7500 RPM. I dropped from 400 mains to 370 and ran it Sunday. It ran very good again. But if I open the throttle all the way at about 5000 (like you see on dyno runs), it starts going and sputters. If I roll it up a bit and then open it it goes like stink to red line. It runs fine just cruising at any RPM. It's a very smooth running engine. No stuttering or sputtering or funny pops. And when I'm sporting around up in the mountains at higher constant RPM's it runs quite good.
I'm curious if you all take your bike out and whack the throttle wide open at 4-5K, does it just perfectly smooth run all the way up? Like a modern fuel injected engine?
I will run it more with the 370's and may end up back at 360.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
My RZ used to be perfectly smooth and then developed a similar thing, though if I whack open the throttle at 4-5k, it just goes smoothly. Mine is more of a half-throttle thing.
I think you may just be too rich still.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
It’s been almost a month since my unfortunate crash. I really did not need another project but such is life in the fast lane. This bike has been sitting since then until recently. Whilst heeling I kept busy living in the attic. I installed 11 POE 4K security cameras on the house and pool house with 24/7 recording and fancy pants software I’m still getting familiar with. The brains are mounted in a new wall mounted rack. Also installed 2 gable end attic fans. And moved the modem and main router in to the rack. Ran ethernet all throughout the house with a 1GB switch in the rack for all the ethernet. Quite a job with plenty of new curse words developed along the way. But very satisfied in the end. Oh and installed an exterior 120V RV outlet on the pool house.
Back to the project.
The carcass
Some of the repairs…
The freshly powder coated side stand which Julian welded the mount on to the frame during the rebuild. Without a welder I got creative. First I had to bend it back in to shape. It was no longer functional.
Made a little foot to attach and screw it together. It was getting a little thin anyways.
I’m not quite finished with that but almost.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
Next the left Tarozzi took a beating. Not a recommended frame slider. The long bushed bolt that holds it together was bent. So I took it apart and straightened the bolt. It’s still hanging up a bit as it has to be perfectly straight. It will require a tiny bit more tweaking.
It doesn’t work like this.
The left pipe required a little persuasion in the form of Mapp Gas.
And after about 3 months the rebuilt shock is finally back.
This is the difference at maximum allowable extension of 11mm. It raises the rear end about 1 1/8 inch.
Installing the shock.
After repainting the a few months ago freshly repainted pipes.
Before and after shot of the left pipe repair.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
I ordered a set of blinkers and they arrive today but they are huge so I'll ride with no blinkers till I get another set.
I have a replacement headlight that was allocated to another project to go on this bike.
I hope to go for a mellow Mines Road ride Saturday and see if I can add a few trouble free miles to this 200 mile rebuild. My knee is still quite sore but good enough for a ride.
Still not sure WTF caused the crash other than taking my hand off the left grip to wave at bikers going the other way. Then bam I was on the ground. I'll see if I can find my crash spot. There should still be a piece of clutch lever there, and see if I can do some evaluation.
Happy 4th. Stay safe in the wacky new world we live in.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
Thanks Paul. Hope you had a great ride. I read on BARF that they have increased patrols out that way.
Any truth to this?
I'm over due to show off up at Alices and then do one of the loops.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
Yep, there was at least 5-6 hidden cars and a patrol up there as well. Seemingly he was giving tickets last week to all bikes that had the license plate under the fender or where it couldn’t be seen clearly.

Re: kpke Thrasher Engine Rebuild
OK. I guess 2020 will just continue to be a sucky year. Covid, civil unrest, no MC shows. Probably won't take the 500 to Alices to show off (poor me). Yesterday morning I went to Costco and there were 3 MC cops on Isabel. 2 had people pulled over. The third in the median with radar. Must be funding to overcome the defunding.
I will just have to stay on my turf on the Isle Of Mines. Leaving this morning at 9:30 or so cuz it's supposed to be low 90's today.
