SO I am down here at Daytona Beach soaking in the sun. RZ#2 is beside my side.

My PV servo motor is acting up. I even brought one with me as I suspected it. Still with the "new" motor, the PV is jumping all over the place. I have to assume the controller is suspect, unless I find something wrong with the harness.

I might have to look up this Zeeltronic dohicky. Might solve all the worlds problems!

Is it doing it with the engine running or when powered only by the battery? I ask because if your battery is weak you will have the same symptoms.

I would check the wiring. I was prepared to replace my servo and found it was just a bad connection at the plug.

Id also blame the servo, and its the simpler one to find a spare of to test.

When the controllers die they tend to work more intermittently and thus not do the start up properly IME, thats when you suspect them and subsequently find they dont work right at all.

You can run battery power directly to the YPVS servo to test it and bypass the controller. You'll get a very quick answer.

You can open the servo to service it. You can clean and lubricate the drive gears. I've done this to repair several.

Being I am here in Daytona (leaving tomorrow) As stated, I did try another servo, which I tested on #1 bike before I left, no jumping around center. I do have a few other controllers at my disposal at home. I will clean connectors and change out pieces parts until I either run out of parts or I break out the wallet.

I am trying to keep 2 of the RZ's stock. Not at the expense of reliability though.

SO the summer has just about passed here in the hills of WV. I have not touched bike #2. It is still on one of my lifts.
I called Ed Toomey the other day & had a nice chat. I believe I will send him parts of my engine for the "Toomey treatment".
So I will have one bike a stocker (#1 R/W/B bike) and #2 is going to be modified. Not going the FZ swinger/ USD fork route. Been there, done that. Just not worth it IMHO. I think a FOx Shock & a correctly sprung & valved fork will do nicely. Wish that dood who is doing carbon fiber parts would get some stuff in production. I would spring for some.
Decided to sell #3, 4 & 5. I have a listing on CL if anyone wants to view it.

It is getting to be bike wrenching time here in WV (winter). Bike #1 motor is all boxed up and headed for Ed Toomey so he can do a little grinding on it.

I cruise Ebay usually twice a day looking for interesting goodies. I just found 2 of my holy grails (yours may be different) for a nice price. I wonder what they are REALLY worth! :smt003

I find it funny how much those rubber headlight rings command.

No kidding! I seen one go for hundreds a couple months ago. There is one for 225.00 right now. Peeps want stupid money for RZ parts.

Yeah that was me. I hopped on it as soon as I found it. Took about a minute to decide though. I was afraid that while I was deciding someone would use the buy it now while I had it in my cart deciding. I really lucked out this time. Usually that does not happen!

So it is time to kick this restore into high gear.

Received the motor back from Ed Toomey the other day. Installed into the frame and started to hook up various systems and trying to bring the old girl back to life.

Since this one is modified, I purchased a cheap alum radiator off of the Bay. AS I was test fitting, as delivered, it was not going to work. The pin that goes into the upper mount was not in the right place. Plus, believe it or not the damn thing was powder coated! Imagine that. I guess one could babble on about what one would expect for a sub forty dollar radiator.

Damn, hit the wrong button!

So I cut off the top mount, ground it clean, machined a new one and took it to my local tig welder. As usual, they did a good job and it fits perfectly now. One issue down, many more to go!

Six weeks ago I decided to stat working part time at my favorite motorsickle dealership part time. They sell Suzuki, Kawie, Yamaha, Honda and KTM. They fired the service manager, the lead tech moved into that position, and that left them with no one to twist wrenches in the service department, as all the tech's either were let go or moved on to greener pastures. They convinced me and another guy to work 3 days a week to get them out of a jam. Plus another tech was hired to work full time, although he was hired temporarily, as he was waiting for another job to pop up closer to home. He lives 5.5 hrs. away.

There is nothing worse than laying under a side by side that is dirty as hell, replacing a wiring harness. [smilie=censored2.gif]

The reason I said the above, is now I find much less time to work on my machines. And I find that when I do have the time, I just do not feel like wrenching on my free time anymore. So progress will be slow. Friday, I asked the general manager if I could quit, but he said not yet. SO progress will be slow forthcoming...

Just for shits n giggles, a pic as she sits this morning.

I am also restoring an 83 RM250 at the same time. This one is almost done.
