Tell ya what, IMO.

If you want a great solid performer that’s not too loud, The Tommy Crawford designed HVC pipes are Daymn good. Hydro formed as well.
Just a great all around pipe that hits well in the midrange too. Sexy looking pipe too!

Toomey’s I believe will offer better top end(ultimately ) faster but there louder, and may or may not be in current production, I believe he has O Ringed flanges now added to his pipes as well.

Either of these pipes will sit up very tight on the frame, and offer great performance on the street or for track days. And generally you can replace them quickly. Stuart made me a replacement pipe 13 years ago in only 4 weeks and he hadn’t made RZ pipes in almost 10 years at that point.

Then I’d recommend JL side by sides, good pipe and Jim learned his craft from Tommy Crawford, ask most folks with a Gamma 500 what they think of Tommy’s pipes. JLs are easily the easiest to replace. I’d say Lomas builds more 2 stroke pipes than all others combined these days.

One can’t miss with any of these 3 pipes

But other manufactures are all good in various ways, these are just my picks.

It occurs to me I should clarify that I'm considering pipes for an aircooled RD350, which narrows the choices some. The Patriot (née MotoGPWerks) chambers were suggested on the other site and I dig the design and the price. I have a never-used 15 year-old set of DGs that I was going to use because I have them, but I'm losing enthusiasm for them with each passing day. There don't seem to be as many choices for aircooled RDs as for RZs or even LCs, and besides DG (they're 5-6 hundred buck now!) they're around a grand. Shipping from UK or Japan? I'm afraid to ask. I want to know more about the Patriots because they have the look I want, the guy making them seems to know his business, he's only two states away from me and the price is great. I paid more than $449 for my Toomeys in 1998ish. Someone must have a set of these pipes out there, somewhere.

Good one! See you found the official black country flag! Kenny's from Cradley Heath just down the road from Dudley, where I'm from, it's the capital of the black country in the heart of the industrial midlands. Famous for steel works, smelters, stamping mills and chain making. They built the chain for the Titanic here. Also the heartland of the British motorcycle industry. BSA, Triumph, Norton, DMW, all came from here. Black country blokes are ace at metalworking.

Black Country and proud!

Like Zeppelin's "Black Country Woman"?

The pipe story has turned into a negotiation of sorts, based on how many sets of pipes for specific model pre-ordered (350 vs 400). They're a bit expensive at 3 sets made, probably more $ than I would spend on an unknown pipe, but if another adventurous soul (or two) signed up we'd be right where we need to be. I'll let you know what happens!

Is this shop located in Anaheim, CA?

Curious how far it is from Wicked Motorsports. I need to drop by there, soon.

We do have people in SoCal.

He's bout 1 & 2 minutes off the 91 in Anehiem.

Like mentioned predominantly 4 strokes, and fair number of racebikes.

Don't go expecting a "deal".
Prices are what prices are and he charges accordingly.
Better or not as good as others isn't the goal..his services and parts are what they are, buy em if you want too.

Seemed a likeable guy, with more than enough knowledge of 70 to early 2000s era go fast bikes, hospitable and took time out of his day to talk.

We had a common conclusion and good laugh regarding another 2 stroke guy from up north, and reinforced my existing opinion if how not to waste time and money, so I liked the guy and he was a straight shooter with questions. I'll need to drop my GSXR carbs off some time, then Dyno tune the bike.
Just to rebuild the Zuki carbs costs a fair share more than two brand new TMMikunus for the RZ...lol

It's all good.

On a light traffic day ,he's bout 30 minutes from Rodger @ Wicked.

Rogers the same way more than glad to talk as long as he's not too busy but the man has work to do and likes to build and parts to sell basically the faster you want it the more you're going to spend and prices are what they are, it's 2021 and an engine rebuild cost more than an RZ cost brand new 😲😅

I have not heard back from this guy yet so I will try him again tomorrow. I am still a little worried about the shoddy looking welds

Well I just talked to him and because I have an rz he said I cannot be part of the group purchase and, if I wanted a set he could make them but he would be charging shop rate by the hour so… not what I wanted to hear but oh well I tried.

Curious what his hourly rate is, and how many hours it takes to make a set of his pipes?
