Daytona Special Project has Begun

#1 Post by rearwheelslider » Tue Nov 30, 2021 10:37 pm

After some coercing, my father has finally given the 400F to me. It has been sitting in a shed for 20 plus years. Came from a friend of his and it is in rough shape. That being said, it needed a points clean up and a carb clean and she smoked out my garage! It will be a putter around town, nothing more. Do not want a restoration, just a runner for now.

-The intake manifolds are cracking, will RD350/RD400 intakes work? Even without a crossover tube?
-The carb slide dust boots are melting away. Does anyone have a source for these?
-I have a y boot intake for it, gonna premix as well. What kind of jetting shall I start with?
-The battery box is missing, gonna use a SLA battery(5ah alarm battery). Fuse holders are completely falling apart, going to use universal fuse holders for the four fuses. Any advice?
-Points are needed. I have read these Daytonas can use either 350 or 400 type points. Any way to know which my bike takes?
-Center stand is missing. Will a center stand from RD350/400 work?

I am having electrical issues. When connected to a jumper battery, only the coils and neutral light have voltage. No other lights are powering up. Ideas?

Thank you for any advice you have! I have had a 73 RD350 in the past and know the bikes fairly well but the 400F is quite different!

Canadian Daytona use the same intake as the RD350LC with crossover
I use an alarm battery , just use one that will fit your case even one smaller than 5 A/H
All RD400 use the same center stand , P/N for the RD350 is the same so should fit
