rz350 porting

#1 Post by turboboy » Wed Aug 31, 2022 6:06 am

Trying my hand at some port clean ups.
No timing changes yet.
Any hints on opening up more on intake.
Cheers

Is it possible to port cylinders and gain hp and not just move power (gain high at rpm, lose at low rpm)

You're a candidate for purchasing an EngMod2T license.
I've used that to optimize components to each other like the port positions with long rod stroker cranks or find a good pipe design for an existing engine state.
Here you can play with any of the influencing parameters before screwing up some valuable original cylinder.

The RD cylinder massivly lacks blowdown. Adding to aux ports on the exhaust is most beneficial mod that'd fulfill your demand.
You may try that on a pair of these:

The above porting work is more or less in the homeopathic 10 -15 % plus range. It'd only gain the full potential in combination with pipes, heads, ignition and maybe some more CC's.

If you don't already have it: There is a tuning manual available for the RD 350 YPVS models.
I'll leave the commenting for someone else as the author may be too biased to give a trustworthy rating.

EngMod2T seems like a cool/helpfull tool. I would love to get a licence, but its expensive when I only have one 2stroke bike. I did a stroke and bigbore build on my Hayabusa with success. It would be fun to make the RD350 a +4mm stroker :smt045. It seems like the best setup is to get longrod stroker crank, +5mm 795 pistons and mill the head 2mm. Do you have a "stock bike" vs. +4mm dyno simulation in your arsenal? :smt040
