VForce 4 reeds

#1 Post by kpke » Sun Sep 18, 2022 5:29 pm

I have these in one engine purchased some time ago. Has anybody purchased these lately? There are so many counterfeiters on amazon and ebay. I would like to make sure I get "real" ones. From the manufacturer they are $258 plus maybe shipping and tax. Quite expensive. They are less $ most other places but how do you know if they are real or not before purchasing?

What else is anyone using nowadays?

I have several sets of other ones here but other than the boysen dual stage ones, I don't really know what they are and what their specs are. I may end up using one of these sets but would prefer VForce.

Thanks.

The genuine ones have rounded corners and the branding on the side of the Reed block, copies have squared corners and no branding, guess the best place to buy them is from a trusted source BP Racing/TDR, I’m from the Uk so don’t really know anyone your side of the pond.

If you search YouTube there are a few videos on there showing the difference.

I have tried the copies on my old hack and they have been fine but I don’t think I would risk them on a new engine.

Could you feel any difference compared to stock reeds ?

I've got a set of those copies I've been meaning to try.

I found it picked up a bit quicker and pulled a bit stronger, not huge but enough to notice

I tried a set of the 4’s when they first came out and I couldn’t tell any seat of the pants difference from the Banshee fiber reeds that I have used for years. I took off the 4’s and sold them. The Yamaha Banshee fiber reeds are a bolt on and cheap as chips as they say. My engine is lightly modified so maybe one could feel it with a heavy modded engine.

Thanks for the replies. For this build I ended up using some TDR reads I happen to have in stock.

Evans, that is an interesting comment about the VForce reeds. And next time I may go with the banshee parts.

I assume these are bolt on and you use it the stoppers? Or do you use the whole banshee reed valve assembly?

^ Ken- the banshee fiber reeds are a bolt on. Stoppers are the same for both. Economical and they work very well! I’ve been using the banshee fiber reeds for about 15 years on my RZ and only had one failure and most likely the broken part of the reed was expelled out the exhaust.

The banshee Reed blocks are slightly larger than the RZ, 2mm inner and 3mm on the outside, larger windows, so for optimal performance you might want to change the block as well.👍
