I have an RD350 ypvs 1984 with original wheels with the oval cuts in the wheels. Found some cheap second hand F2 wheels, had them sandblasted and powercoated. Since rumors say that the F2 are ligther, here are what I measured.
Front wheel incl. ball bearings and seal:
84: 5240g vs. F2: 4850g = 390 gram diff.
Rearwheel incl. ball bearings and seal:
84: 5935g vs. F2: 5860g = 75 gram diff.
Total weight diff: 465 grams
So yes F2 wheels are lighter, but not by much

Re: ypvs wheel weight diff
You should never powder coat structural components: frames, swing arms, wheels. The heat changes the molecular structure of the alloys. I know this statement opens a can of worms.
Your 1UA wheels are not stock since they have been powder coated, so the weight will likely differ from what they were.
There is roughly 2 lbs (near 1kg), difference in weight for the set. Any amount of unsprung weight makes a huge difference in the way the bike performs.
Once I start work on my RZs, I’ll strip a set of each and compare them. No bearings, no discs, no paint.

Hey Ror, opening your cam of worms; as an owner of many race only motorcycles with Powdercoated frames, swingarms, wheels, hubs and triple clamps over the years: my bikes have stood the test of time over and over again from road racing to motocross, and yes even the relatively low heat of a Powdercoat oven does kind of realign (not change) the molecules, you are talking about taking the metal above its eutectic or critical temperature which can range from 900-1200*F, paint/Powdercoat curing ovens (200-400*F) are more like stress relieving or tempering that actually improves the ductility of the metal making it more resistant to cracking. Because of the weight of Powdercoat I have now switched to Cerakote which has also proven the test of time in firearms applications.

F2 disks are also thinner and a bit lighter as a result. Not a huge deal though!
