It looks like your crossover pipe might not be fully seated?

Bike looks great.

Ken, you mentioned a snowmobile thermostat in the video; what's the story there?
The copper gasket failure is disappointing...theoretically a good solution, less expensive than OEM Yamaha and, in the case of the RD350LC, more readily available. Any theories as to why the copper gasket failed?

Thanks kobra. I will take a look at that crossover pipe.

The snowmobile thermostat page 4 of this thread says

"Installed 50c thermostat with Sheridan Racing spacer kit."

Forum member or maybe ex-forum member Brian S sold some spacer kits a while back, I guess a long while back. Somewhere I have the part number of the snowmobile thermostat but I can't find it at the moment because sometimes I keep real good notes and sometimes scatter them about. It required the spacer to allow it to open all the way.

Yes, the copper gasket was "theoretically a good solution". It was relatively inexpensive and was supposed to be reusable, blah, blah, blah. My theories for the failure...

It is a flat single layer gasket and if there is any imperfections in the flatness I think it will fail. There is a lot of surface area there to seal up. However, I think maybe some sort of thicker gasket material rather than the Permatex copper spray on stuff may work. It is also SUPPOSED to be reusable which made it attractive. The three layer Yamaha gasket is embossed and squashes down and it also has that black material on it. As I said in my last video I am really curious what that black material is that Yamaha uses on the head gasket. But it may just be that it has the embossed (I think top and bottom layers) that makes it seal so well. But many claim to successfully reuse these Yamaha head gaskets.

Removed forks to install new fork seals and dust seals. This was supposed to be a quickie. I had in stock All Balls Racing kit 56-166 brand-new, unopened, and it says right on the package FZR600. The seal I took out of one side fork is a standard looking fork seal. The seals in the all balls kit have a strange stepped profile. The OD is correct and the ID is correct. I’ve never seen anything like these to be used for forks. I tried installing them in what I thought was right side up and then upside down. Neither way would work. In the photos the part on the left is what came out. The part on the right is the very strange new all balls racing fork seal.

The dust seals look like they will work fine. I had to order new Yamaha fork seals. So, I have to wait about a week now to put this bike back together.

The side stand spring was barely making contact with the expansion chamber.

This spring can be tough to remove. I stuffed a bunch of pennies into the spring while it was stretched in the down position.

Then put the side stand back up and the spring came right off.

Then put it back on with a piece of shrink tubing.

I’ve seen some springs on the outside of the stand, I guess this is why. Maybe something I should look into

I'm glad you noticed the bolt. It makes it worth the "investment".

Yes, that might be a better solution if done before paint/powder coat.

Or you could put a big dent in the pipe with a ball peen hammer :smt009

I actually tried to bend the mounting bracket with a giant crescent wrench but that was not going to happen.

My first seat cover installation.

Cheap shit $40 eBay seat cover and 40 hours of labor later. :smt009

I was met with some challenges after removing the factory cover.

Far from perfect but a lot was learned this time around. My next one will be better.
