Nice 2stroke day.
Not many bikes, but of course, interesting ones.
Was hoping to run engine in, with some new parts. Plus some different suspension settings.
Torrencial rain all morning, and another bike spilling oil all over the track in the afternoon, and I only got about 15laps or so.
Jetting is close enough on the new carbs... and the engine fells very strong already even with std. ignition and pv curves.
Hope for better luck next time.
A friend that was indered from participating due to lack of information from the organizers, took this vids and photos.
My bike in vid. nr2... 10000rpm down the straight, 480EGT... rich, but drivable

Re: TZR400 track project
omg, last post here in juli 2012
I linked a pal that wrote to me asking about the bike, to this link, and thought it´s about time I drop a few lines.
Well, the bike has been reciving upgrades continually, has been running good, bad, the ocasional hole in piston has also been there
But, most of all, it has been, and is the best "school" in 2strokes engines there is. Trials with different setups in the real world, and thats a hoooole lot diferent then theori, especially the time it takes.
The latest additions have been a complete power generating sistem from a TZR 3XV, to provide the ignitech with a good, continuous powersupply, and an "homemade" quickshift mecanism.
This is maybe also, a relevant mod. that I did, and could be usefull for the guys rotating theyr cranks hard.
I have shimed the bearings so that they rest against the cases wall, on the right side.
Using different thickness on left and right side, the crank gets centered dead on in the cases, eliminating problems such as viscuos drag if the cases are badly matched, and then hopefully, it will stay there, and hopefully again cure the symptom of the flywheel side web, "walking", "separating" on the crank.
But there is more to come. I´ve got hold of a complete WP raceforks setup, the same kind 250GPs used in the world championship in the mid 90s that will have to be adjusted for this bike, next year I´ll also have to make new pipes, as the existentent ones are a little battered from modifications...
Sorry Glyn, they´r not the work of art they used to be anymore
Jeh... What else...
I´ve been having some track fun on a lightly tuned 3XV 250 (and crashing her as well... not cool )
And besides that I´m in the process of overhauling, (and tuning a bit) one of my all time favorites, the cagiva Mito EV1

Re: TZR400 track project
Hey Ruka
Do you want the pipe design if your making some new ones.

Re: TZR400 track project
Can you run the RZ engine without the tie bars? The TZs I had never had them.

You´ve got mail.

Any potential problems if you do remove them?slinger wrote:Yes you canhondaror wrote:Can you run the RZ engine without the tie bars? The TZs I had never had them.

Re: TZR400 track project
It depends on what frame your using, YPVS frame I would leave them on......it's a ikle flimsy. A delta ali frame I never put them on.hondaror wrote:Any potential problems if you do remove them?slinger wrote:Yes you canhondaror wrote:Can you run the RZ engine without the tie bars? Re: TZR400 track project
Thanks for the input. I'll take heed and use them. No deltabox here.
Sorry about the sidetrack.

Hi Ruka.
Ive bought the same "quickshifter" as you have!! Does it work ok?

Haven´t tryed it yet.christer500 wrote:Hi Ruka.

Only mounted it this winther. Right now the ignitech box is reconising it a couple of mm before the gearlever can´t move any further (wen shifting gear)
It should work.
Re: TZR400 track project
First laps of the year have been done.
Only 4 times 15 minutes outings at Assen.
Lots of changes during the winther, so just testing different power valves, ignition setups, jetting setups, a bit suspension testing, and all in all trying to get the feel of the bike.
It was very hard, as during winther my only training was with fork and knives slicing beefs, and lifting pints at the pub.
Still nothing conclusive, but I got some really good pointers for the next time I am out.
Very informative.
But, just so that I woudn´t make a 1400km drive to Holland, and everything went as planed, after the last session while riding to the pits, only 20 meters before I was going to stop, the thing just stopped!
Bloked wheel
I just "touched" the throttle in 1st gear to gain a bit of speed, maybe 2000rpm, and it just bloked.
The plugs are fine, so it probably isn´t a seize. Maybe the primary, clutch, or 1st gear just exploded... have to check that out...

Re: TZR400 track project
Very little time (or money for that sake) for track time this year.
But, me and some mates took to a track in Sweden, before I call it a day for this year, I´m afraid.
A friend on a modified RZ350 (the red bull bike) took some video.
I ride in front of him on my 386cc engine track bike.
The vid was qualifying for the Club race, not very good as I only had a couple of clean laps because of traffik... and the a guy decided to plant his bike in the middle of the track as the vid shows in the end, and the session was of course red flaged.
After 2 laps for Warming the tyres, I got to push a bit before I hit a Group I didn´t quite figured out, and decided to wait a bit insted of going for it...
My mate with the cam catches me Again, and then we go for some action.
My bike was very slow on the high rpm regimes... but still a lot of fun!
Hope youguys enjoy the footage
