Re: Battery Replacement?

Hi Andrew

When you say maintain an older lead battery, what do you mean? Is it enough to keep it plugged into a charger 24/7? I never check battery acid levels. Once filled and in bike I leave it.

Re: Battery Replacement?

Well I fitted that spare battery I had sat in the garage over a year ago I think? But for the last 6 months or so my Optimate has shown "red". I keep unplugging and try again but soon enough goes back to "red". So I'm now looking for a new battery. I would probably remove the bat...

This one? http://www.rzrd500.com/500phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=7974 Cheers, Paul. No, I saw that one when I was looking for that photo - which showed a pic of the rear end with std pipes with the top ones chromed. I even commented on it asking how did he polish them, he replied they've been chromed. Bu...

Thanks, Yes that's the baffles but their not chrome. What I saw was the baffle/exhaust chromed fitted to the bike. Think it was either on a RZV500R or white/red RD500

Well, I had my silencers professionally satin polished. They look good, really good until they corrode with white spots all over. I'm now mirror polishing my own.

To Chrome or Not to Chrome?

Having had alloy parts satin polished over a year ago I've found that alloys corrodes and show white spots to which you have to keep applying a satin pad to re polish the bits. The silencers were quite bad, probably the worst so I mirror polished one up to compare. It looks quite nice shiny so I'm t...

Thing is, this 5amp battery was fitted new to my RD350R August 2008. The mechanic fitted a 5amp rather than 5.5amp so I soon after that bought the right battery. This battery has been sat in garage unused since then with only a charge here and there. It may pack up soon  Hope not though as it...

Thanks Gary, great answer. HWY9CA - the 6amp battery that I was encouraged to buy was a gel battery which look similar to yours but with different connectors and smaller shape. It was £10 more and because it was physically smaller I wasn't sure? It kind of looked like this but black... http://www...

To clarify, is it OK to fit a 6amp 12v battery intsead of the std 5.5amp? Will it do the bike any harm? I dont think it will but im asking just incase there would be a problem.

Battery Replacement?

I need a new battery. I have a spare older battery since 2009 but its slightly smaller and only has 5 amps rather than 5.5 amps. It holds a charge so seems ok but I need to buy smaller nut and bolts for it to fit. The other option is buy new, so I visiting a local battery shop today and they suggest...

Havn't ridden my bike for a number of months due to this speedo failure! I don't ride my bike when I have no speedo! I'm thinking of getting a mechanic to fix this but am concerned he will do no different that I've already done - remove wheel, bend speedo tabs to correct position and refit = work fo...

Fixed!.... I think.

I changed the pads back to the original ones but still had the squealing when slow braking. Since then I rubbed the disc with a rough satin pad (like a course green scourer) which seems to have sorted it.
