Re: Costin - NSR500 1994 Doohan bike
Thnx Jeff......RC45, I'm still doing one off frames, although the the last few yrs have been mainly complete bike jobs. The 85 YZR is different with its extra square tubing hanging of the spar... Could be an interesting project

Re: Costin - NSR500 1994 Doohan bike
Its one carb for left and one for the right side......it took about 15-20 secs for the top cyls to fire once it started. It took about 3 runs to get a similar mixture running from both the top and bottom pair of cyls..... I think the difference between the pairs will diminish once the engine starts ...

Re: Costin - NSR500 1994 Doohan bike
yes mate, its the RZ350 cylinder bike...ive had it running quite a bit, although Ive only ridden up an down the local street. We need new manifolds which angle the carbs off about 45 degrees to either side to give a little more clearance for front wheel. The wheelbase is the same as Doohans so I don...

Re: Individual / single heads from another Yamaha
On the first page of this post, in the 2nd picture of the engine you can see the aluminium coolant pipe that runs between the 2 bottom cyls....half way along it you can see a black coolant hose running from the coolant pipe directly backwards towards the base of the top cyls......there is an alumini...

Re: Individual / single heads from another Yamaha
I have only used the 3ma SP heads...although some of the early YZ125 heads fit as well. There is a bit of welding on the outside of the head to match the cyl and some of the coolant passage need a little grinding (it was 6 years ago I built that engine so memory is a bit vague)...I did some extensiv...

Re: Gauloises YZR500 3MA (Mistress)
Hi Mark, Your bike looks bloody fantastic, if your happy with it and if the people that ride it say it handles great then you have done a great job. Trying to turn a big old lump of an RZ500 motor into something resembling anything like a GP500 is difficult at best regardless whether you use the ori...

Well done to get hold of that bike...theres a pic of it in John Robinsons two stroke book.
Amazes me that bikes like that are left to rot in a dark damp place.....good luck with your resto!!!
Thanks for posting the article up Steve
