You should be fine with the cranks, They still work, you just need to mod the case a little...Redline Junkie wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 9:11 am Well this sucks, I thought I was going to be OK with Gus's Cranks but now I don't know if I should by a set? FFS

Nothing wrong with sending your good used cranks out to get rebuilt....that is what I preferred.
Genuine Yamaha seals and new KOYO bearings and the cranks are as new.

Re: RZ500N rebuild
I may go the rebuild route if I could find the parts and someone skilled enough to do it right. Anyone know of a good crank guy in Canada?

Can you tell me the Koyo bearing numbers for the crank?

Re: RZ500N rebuild
For many it defeats the purpose of buying them. People want ready to go cranks that work without having to modify the engine in any way. It really isn't asking much, is it? We are sold cranks at a high price and told they are perfect and ready to install, except for some they are not. I specifically asked Gus about this problem in a post before buying mine and he denied there was a problem.
This all goes back to the problem Yambits had with incorrectly sized rods. I asked them about it and they told me the problem did exist but had been resolved and the rods came from Taiwan, which is where the cranks are being made. Yambits purged the defective rods from their supply chain, but they are turning up in Gus's cranks, and those cranks are sold by multiple sellers as well as eBay and Amazon.
People don't mind paying for new cranks. They mind getting less than what they paid for and being fed lies about the poor fitment issue.
I won't be buying more from Gus. I'll rebuild the dozen cranks I have here. I suggest others do the same.
Re: RZ500N rebuild
I absolutely agree John, They should be correct in the first place, I have a spare set left out of the batch I bought, Hopefully ill never need them, BUT, Its too late to return themsilverstrom wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 3:08 pmFor many it defeats the purpose of buying them. Re: RZ500N rebuild
I’ll not be using Gus’s cranks again as The original cranks will be rebuilt by Bill Wilson and put in my RZV engine and I also have a spare set of OEM cranks as backup
Re: RZ500N rebuild
These are my thoughts too John, I have perfectly usable cranks (the engine ran fine before stripping) that I could put new bearings/seal in locally but I bought Gus' cranks as I read good things about them on here and figured it was a nice easy drop-in solution rather than deal with a crank rebuilder. '
As you so perfectly put, this is the reality: People don't mind paying for new cranks. They mind getting less than what they paid for and being fed lies about the poor fitment issue.
I dealt with Gus with a 350 crank almost a decade back and it wasnt exactly what anyone would call 'easy', I figured that was a one off issue, seems not.

Re: RZ500N rebuild
Have a set that I got with the bike I purchased.
What's their value? and how can I check if they are not good and fix them?
thanks

Re: RZ500N rebuild
Best way is to fit them in the cases, fit the pistons and cylinders and turn the engine over, That'll tell you if you have problems.ditomagico wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 6:00 am Have a set that I got with the bike I purchased.

Re: RZ500N rebuild
CV Tech in Quebec, as well. Talk to your local Yamaha dealer to see who does their crank rebuilds.
I paid $1300 Cdn for my Gus cranks. Still need to check them to make sure they have good rod big end diameters.
