Nice work - it’s nice to use TZ parts to add to the impression of an original bike.

Cheers

The OW01 front end is on, eliminating 4.5lbs using the works Marlboro wheel, brakes & clipons.

3D printed prototype wheel spacers installed. But it would not be a true One Off Custom without a last minute SNAFU to deal with.

The works CNC Brembo 40mm calipers don’t fit the civilian OW01 40mm adapters - so yet more custom pieces to be made lol 😂 🤷‍♂️🔧
Also going with the period Brembo master, brake & clutch levers that match the works clipons.

Now I am motivated to swap out the CBR400 swingarm just to get the bike back to All Yamaha

Well - if only all custom build challenges were this easily solved!
After taking measurements and wondering why the 35 year old Works Brembo calipers wouldn’t bolt up to the 33 year old OW01 RC Sugo kit adapters, I saw it!
Each adapter was on the wrong side. :smt017 :smt046
Swapped left to right and on to the next task.

Lookin good, it's nice when a problem is so easily sorted. Btw, love the color of that front wheel. Is it day glow red?

Yes sir - Marvic magnesium 3 spoke in factory Marlboro dayglo orange. Sadly the seller didn't want to get rid of the rear wheel at the time. I have ben waiting to get this wheel onto a bike for ages :) Finally its almost ready. Just have to turn some spacers to match the OW01 forks.

I forgot I had these 2 wheels ... now to try put them to use, but the YZR500 hub is just so wide - really needs a slightly wider swingarm. I designed and 3D printed a sprocket carrier design that may work.

The white Marvic is a 1990 TZ250 unit and fits well - I just had to design early 80's period correct disc and caliper carriers to work the works caliper and disc.
So 1st 3D printed pieces fro fitting and then off to order the CNC pieces.

What are the two red rear wheels off of? Are you planning on trying to get the white TZ 250 rear powder coated to match the front? Using the 3D printer was a good idea, I'm guessing you just provide them with your math data and their all set?

The Dayglo orangr wheels are from Team Agostini YZR500s - circa 1987. One is a 5.5" and the other a 6" wheel. I would paint not powder coat.

i am not a fan of powder coating wheels, finish is too thick and heavy and is hard to remove later and i would not want to subject magnesium wheels to further annealing, even though I don't believe the heating cycle would do anything.

As for the 3D printing, I have a Robo3D that has been pretty reliable the last 3 years. But similar to using a CNC service, you would provide the 3D output file for processing.

I think I am close to the final layout of the new big bore TZ250 radiator layout.

And finally got around to prototyping a proper rear brake rotor carrier/spacer for using a TZ250 rear wheel with a static brake rotor and the CBR400 NC29 swingarm and floating caliper.

Image

I had already previously done the floating roater carrier for a static caliper.

That static rotor looks crazy light!
