Re: 47X AND 1GE WHAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT ?
Rear side panel trims are different
On the 47X bikes the frame was fitted with foam rubber trims as shown at the top of this photo. The lower trims in the photo are 1GE and not fitted to 47X bikes.
The part numbers are 47X2173200 and 47X2173500
You can see the seals fitted in this photo
The 1GE bikes just had the rubber trims fitted to left hand side panel and the right battery side panel shown in this photo.
The part numbers are 1GE2173200 and 1GE2173500

Re: 47X AND 1GE WHAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT ?
The 1GE bikes had green translucent coolant and oil tanks, the 47X bikes had non-translucent black tanks.
Also the 47X and 1GE coolant tanks have different pipework.
1GE COOLANT TANK
1GE OIL TANK
47X COOLANT TANK
47X OIL TANK

Re: 47X AND 1GE WHAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT ?
Those translucent tanks seem more prone to cracking than the earlier tanks, my (1GE) oil tank had a leak at the top which turned out to be a section of the tank that had become brittle, once removed it was obvious the whole thing was brittle, ive changed it to a 47X tank and have a spare coolant tank from a 47X when the need arises for that.
Yamaha made them a bit too thin to make them translucent maybe?

Re: 47X AND 1GE WHAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT ?
The carb overflow pipes routing was different on the 47X bikes and the 1GE bikes
The 47X bikes had the overflow pipes fitted through the front belly pan stay brackets, but because they leaked fuel so much it melted the belly pan
Yamaha brought out this TSB for the 47X bikes to have the overflow pipes replaced with longer ones that cleared the back of the belly pan.
This is how the 1GE bikes left the factory

My October 84 47x had that mod from new - nice detective work Steve

Never ceases to amaze, I bet the most long serving engineer in Yamaha's product development department couldn't tell you this stuff. Brilliant.

Considering the tools they had to work with years ago I think it's amazing that they managed to do what they did. Of course, back then they had common sense and knew what worked and what didn't. Now every part is computer designed and slapped together to create a bike, often with interesting results.

The under fuel tank heat shield changed between 47X and 1GE
The 47X item was a tray
The 1GE item just a flat heat shield

I was removing end can studs for replating on some 47X and 1GE end cans and noticed they were different
47X end can studs are 28mm long
1GE end can studs are 32mm long

Probably the reason why reference number are differents : 47X-14753-02 vs 47X-14753-01

Re: 47X AND 1GE WHAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT ?
The mirror bolts are a different size between the 47X and 1GE bikes, because of this difference the front frame stay's are different.
The 47X bikes used mirror bolt part number 90105-10330 (10mm bolt) and use front frame stay 47X2832600
The 1GE bikes used mirror bolt part number 91026-08025 (8mm bolt) and use front frame stay 1GE2835600

Re: 47X AND 1GE WHAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT ?
Hi Steve,
Interesting to see - the sub-frame is different as well - looks like spacing as well as size of the mirror nut threads for the bolts as described above
Cheers
Paul
