CDI testing
After reading form comments on faulty cdi' problems, decided my Elise might be suffering the same issue possibly (power cutting in/out under load). Found this video on how to test the cdi (attached). Followed the test procedure and found one circuit that did buzz between the white and black connecto...

Brass Balls
Decided to clean behind the brass ball passageways of the VM26's. Tapped the top of the ball with a nail and drilled out with a 3/64" bit. Reversed the bit, into the drilled hole, to pop out the ball(s). Bought a pair of 10-24x3/16 scrub screws at 17 cents a piece from Lordco as replacements. T...

Re: Starting issue
Had Arrow rebuild the oil pump. Could add a shim perhaps but have not had an issue with his rebuilds. Yes that was the compression readings - my bad. Using 94 octane. Oil is still at the full mark. Side issue: is this the correct orientation for the connector holding in the needle.

Re: Starting issue
Replaced all the bottom end seals and honed the cylinders as piston wear was in spec with new rings. Leak down test was 145 left/146 right. Suspect it's the fuel mixture.

Re: Starting issue
'81 Elsie. Update. Found an answer on a recent thread of the LC Crazy site that address the start issue on a 250. Tweeted the air screw 1/4 out and now it fires up better but not perfect. Cautiously optimistic, I took it for a ride and still blowing massive smoke. The question is should I drop the n...

Re: Starting issue
Pulled the choke carb off to examine the float - height good and it moved freely. Removed the choke to clear the passage - all good. Blew thru the main/pilot jets and no blockages noted. Decided to replace the balance tube as it appear a bit flanged out on one end. Rechecked carb balance - good. Bik...

Starting issue
Dropped in new motor in the RD and going through break in with all stock specs. I'm 260 kms in and decided to following the standard the break in procedure instead of drive it like you stole it this time. Noticed that following warm up the bike was still blowing way too much smoke while driving. No ...

Re: 85 USA RZ Engine Rebuild
Like the DIY leakdown tester - thrifty. The bike's paint appears to be in very good shape. You'll have a few conversations at gas and coffee stops this Summer - no doubt about it.

Re: Add Kerosene?
Bought 94 ethanol free (supposedly) yesterday. Hope that continues. Race fuel - what the cost per gallon or litre and at what ratio do you use for the mixture?

Add Kerosene?
This evening read this in the comments on a Kawi S1 350 restoration vid. Read one comment that ethanol free gas has interestly disappeared in the UK. Has anyone followed this recipe with good results? Seems more efficient that trying to remove the ethanol using two jerry can method. Note governments...

Re: DIY carb sych connection
So Bare, it would work on a Jensen Interceptor 3 (was looking at one yesterday) and not on 4L0. What the alternative carb balancing tool recommended available say at Princess Auto or Cnd Tire etc for the VM26's?

Re: DIY carb sych connection
Discussed this topic with Hondaror/Rory couple year's ago. Our discussion convinced me to purchase a vacuum gauge call a uni-sync (pic below). The issue with using it was is to wide for fitment between the airbox and each carb. So went with the popsicle stick for the time being instead of remove bac...

Re: DIY carb sych connection
Well Martin, your thoughts of manually sync'ing VM's cooberate what AU mikuni store advise on the subject. (https://youtu.be/9L6b8ji-SIE). Still curious on your thoughts on the function of the carb balance tube carb and why it creates a balance. Checked Gordon Jennings tuners handbook, for possible ...

M/C therapy
This vid was posted 2 days ago. Oddly, I don't even know why I clicked on it; perhaps the title caught my attention. I completely understand the narrator's reference to Steve McQueen cause it mirrors a quote I recall fm Keanu Reeves decades later. If you decide to watch it, you'll probably nod - 'ye...
