Leathers?

#1 Post by pez » Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:07 am

Hey guys,

I've been pretty focused on getting the bike running right, but I've been having a serious think about protective gear. Tax return helps [smilie=thumbup.gif] At the moment I've got a textile RJay's jacket (Aussie brand) and gloves, an old super-thick leather jacket and a HJC helmet. I know, pretty basic, but I want to step it up a notch.

I've been seriously considering a set of two piece leathers. I mainly ride through some seriously twisty hills roads, and would eventually like to hit up track days.

What do you guys use? What do you recommend?

It looks like I'm going to have to spend at least $AU 1200 to get a decent suit. I have tried on many suits, and the two that have fitted well are a Dianese M5 Div and a Berik Optimum. I haven't had a chance to try AlpineStar. Any comments, or other suggestions?

Then I'll have to save for a Shoei :)

There are so many brand out there???There all pretty comparable except when it comes to price..why dont you look into Joe Rocket brand, I know Mat Maldin is the American distributor for them, and the prices are not too bad.

If its good enough for the 1 of the 2 baddest roadracers(Maldin & Doohan) to ever come out of austrailia they cant be too bad. I think they undercut dainese by a few hundred ..but im not sure. ck around see what others have to say :smt017

youve got the better brands listed & really its whatever fits your body & budget as you cant go wrong either way with those three brands.
as far as skid lids i like arai over shoei because ive got a large mellon .
i had to trade down to the lowest level in my gear as youve seen in the pics of me on my ride.
my gear is bottom of the barrel stuff but it sure beats a T shirt & jeans out on the streets yet the gear would be enough to get me on track or the salt flats here in the states.
dont forget the boots & gloves as they are just as important as your suit. the ttx brand boots seem to be a favorite world wide.
gloves are changeing all the time as i see alpinestars now sew the pinky finger onto the ring finger.
compliments of BALLISTIC TROY after tearing off part of his pinky last year & having the rest cut off so he could race the second race in WSBK.
boy did Troy go out on top of his game or what,he must be as large as Wayne Gardner was in GPS, & WAYNES in the car world for a while now still doing the biz like the wild man he was on two wheels.

those brands my countryman mentioned are very good as well & last but not least the moto gp brand has quality & protection.

Cheers guys.

I did some research, apparently the motogp brand comes out of the same factory as Berik and Madif in China. The Dainese is made in Romania. Joe Rocket is also china, but unfortunately doesn't come close to fitting me :S

At this stage I'm going to go for the Berik - I'm kinda between sizes on the Dianese i've tried. There has been a slight delay - turns out the gf has a Shoei sized head, kinda broke the budget on buying her a lid. Looks like leathers in a month or two :(
