Okay put that shit away because these parts just arrived.

It does tighten down to accept the locking tab washer.

I was able to measure this gap with a .109” drill bit. Yes, the sprocket looks crooked. I was holding the camera with one hand and the string with the other and it pulled away a bit. I’ll play with it some more and measure 8 or 10 more times. Then see if I can get Julian to do some “essential” machining of the sprocket carrier the required .1” or where ever I end up.

I think I am getting there. Need to figure out how many more chain links are required. Just add the additional sprocket teeth???

I will put the old chain on and do an actual count of additional links required.

You could always just buy a longer chain, they usually don't cost more, and cut it to length.

Looking good!

Yes. New chain just ordered today. I just put the old one on to count how many links I am short. Will purchase a long one and shorten as required.

Looks like I'll be purchasing the same one as the last and it's a few bucks cheaper this time.

Here are some updates from the last few weeks.

New choke parts were required and arrived.

Old on the right and new on the left

To purge air out of the oil supply line I used a piece of bicycle inner tube, poke a hole in it, and a very low charge on the compressor very quickly did the job.

Many years ago I posted decoking pipes on this same bike. I loaned the “tool” out and never saw it again. So I made a couple more. This works well to get the dry stuff out but mucks up a bit if you hit an oily part. Wear pants and safety glasses because if the snake comes out while spinning it hurts. I caught it in in the face. Felt good.

Silencers got a quick snake treatment.

Then soaked them in some old premix I needed to get rid of.

I was going to start the bike last weekend then decided to continue with some improvements. This had previously been welded. But it still had a little crack and was leaking a bit.

Image

So not having a welder JB Weld to the rescue.

Image

Then decided to do some more JB bondoing on some of the little “imperfections”. I’ve done this before but not to this extent. Time will tell if it holds up. My bet is yes.

I went back to a recent posting here about this little gizmo. The orange apparently makes the blinkers flash properly. I don’t know if I’ve ever had functional blinkers on this bike. This will make free an original RZ350 Flasher Unit that I will part with for a mere $250. It may or may not work.

Image

The chain finally arrived after 4 or 5 weeks on order and the second flasher will go on the 500.

Current status is…

It fukn runs and it sounds really, really good. Happy Mothers Day. Not without fueling struggles on initial startup which I’m still baffled by. But I am through my second heat cycle and love the familiar music. I’ll try to get some video up.

I am sure I will take a short COVID SIP spin or two next week end :smt026

Gotta get out today for a Costco run so I'll get some more fuel to dilute the premix in the tank currently.

I am down to a few little things.

Redo the fan switch with a nice little on LED. Wires are already in the harness.

Still need the sprocket carrier machined 3mm. But I'll take a break in ride or two as is until Julian can get access to his other house.

Finish sanding and realigning the modified chain guard.

Decide if I want to put a better body set on it.

Oh, and I guess it's time to speak to the shock rebuild dude again. :smt009 But it will ride with the stocker currently installed. Better check the bolts cuz I may have left that shit loose expecting the Fox shock to be back ages ago.

This whole time I've been waiting for a bearing to be shipped from a supplier but it's delayed due to covid. You rebuilt your entire bike before I could get my engine fixed!

Who did you send the shock to for service?

kobra, did you ever put a spring on the bend radius of the oil supply line at the oil pump? Or something else?

I don't like it. The Tygon tubing material is really soft and it seems over time may kink up resulting in disaster.

Thanks.
