18mm offset sprocket.
8mm from the wheel and hub.
Engine 2mm.

Began carving up the upper shock mount. I’m going to have to mess with the geometry. I have the parts for both the rz and gsxr. Whichever one works out better will be the route to take.

As it sits now the RZ shock mounting point needs to move towards the rear. Im going to have to study both bikes geometry and do some mock ups of both.

Decided to go with the gsxr geometry.
It’s a gsxr swingarm and the part that links the shock to all 3 points (shock, frame, swingarm) is unique. The only way to use that part is by using the original shock which is notched
for it.
Thankfully I haven’t tacked in the upper shock mount. The gsxr shock is a large stud with a nut to retain it. In that respect it should be relatively simple to integrate a mount on the frame.
Ebay’d a clean ‘06 gsxr 600 shock.

Apologies for the size of all these pics. When I have a little time I'll go through and size them down. :smt023

Few things I've dug out today. Could not remember where my wiring harness was. Sat around thinking about it for a bit.
Remembered a box in the garage with my orig cylinders in it.

Funny thing was. When I rebuilt my RZ for the second time with GSXR750 front end, GSX rear wheel and cush drive I rode it for a bit until one day I seized up the right cylinder.
Luckily I realized what was happening, got the clutch in quick and shut it down. Pushed the bike home.

I have no idea what the cause was. I had the original carbs and did not rebuild them after the engine was rebuilt. My guess has always been a float bowl went dry.
While looking for parts I found a deal for a set of ported cylinders with pistons on ebay so I picked those up.
I removed the melted aluminum from the original cylinders with muriatic acid and used a 3 stone hone on a drill to clean up the cylinder. I remember doing this in my apartment. If only the landlord knew.
Bought a stock 1st over piston and was ready.

Installed the ported cylinders and a single carb kit from a banshee and proceeded to put a few hundred miles on the bike.

Original Cylinders.

Wiring harness! OId school zeeltronic stuff.
Contacted Zeeltronic and these are the original electronics they put out. I'd like to renew along with getting the PV controller but these have never been used.

35mm PWKs. One was from the single carb kit I ran for a bit so I bought another to make a pair.

Engine rebuild had been so long I had thought I had stock metal reeds in there. Turns out they are Boysen’s.

I’ve thought about making my own Reed valve. I have the software, machinery and time as I don’t want to spend the $ on the VForce setup. With the porting and big carbs The gain might be worth the effort.

GSXR shock is too long.
Working on my own part to use the F4i shock in place of the GSXR shock.

Obviously more to do but it's close.

Looking up the shock lengths they seemed to be closer than they actually are. Perhaps the data I found was incorrect or I was mistaken on what I have.

Whatever the case may be, upward and onward!

Decided since it’s the gsxr swingarm I’ll stick with gsxr geometry using the gsxr parts adapted to the f4i shock. If different spring rates or dampening is needed I’ll deal with that later.

This is the central part to the gsxr suspension.

I dunno. But I would round off the bar in the center of the inlet port and definitely round off the top back edge of the port. That’s a very sharp edge. Make it flow. Make the ports flow. Not just make them bigger.

Thanks for the info. I thought the same when I bought them a long time ago.
Whether or not i get around to it remains to be seen. :D

If anyone with a relatively stock rz is reading this, would you mind getting a measurement for me?

With the bike upright, under its own weight, what is the distance between the center of the swingarm pivot point (bolt) and the ground? Inches, mm, 12oz soda can measurements preferred.

I’m going to have to add a bit of ride height from stock but I want to keep as close to stock height as I can.

Gracias!

15.5 to 16 inches depending on tires.
I have an 84 with stock size tires - seems to measure about 15.5 inches
an 85 with slightly larger tires measures 16 inches.
These are approximations. Right now my garage is jammed up with stuff so I can't get a super accurate measurement.

Got started on the swingarm “junction” today.
Just have to make the spacers and press the bearings in.
Might work.

I started assembling my rear suspension pivot link thingamajig and realized I should have made it differently.

Back to the scrap bin for some material.
