Oh man, having to repeat certain things is terrible, but at the same time it is a huge relief and a source of knowledge and satisfaction to accomplish them as they should.

Version 3!

1 piece of 6061 4x5x6 is $100.
2 pieces of 6061 2x5x6 is $50.

These are the sizes closest to the stock size I need.

So I designed it to be 2 halves bolted together.
Going to add a fourth fastener.

Apologies for the insignificant updates. I blame my isolation.

Material is in.

Found an old picture of my RZ after it's first rebuild after it was totaled.
Micron GP's. :smt023

They were heavy and power fell off early.. After its first modern suspension build I went with a single carb. With the Microns and single carb the bike was a low end monster. No top end though and I like a screaming 2 stroke.

Image

[edit] I don't remember where this upper fairing and chin cowl went. I’m almost sure they were destroyed in the accident but I know this image was after the rebuild.
If you look very carefully you can see a Canadian model swingarm ('86?) powder coated black with the plate mounted adjusters pointing out the back. If anyone is interested I still have this swingarm. Nice shaper pcoated black.

Long time ago.

The cost (when I last looked) is $100 for 1 piece of 4x5x6.
Was $25 each for 2x5x6.

Almost done with this thing. Finding time wasn’t easy.

Made two mistakes but it’s fine. Nothing that affects its functionality so I’m not going to dwell on it. It does reside under the bike between 2 pipes, after all.

Just have to mill out the slot for the shock and press in the bearings.

Milled slot for shock.

Just have to finish bearing bores and wait for new bearings to arrive.
I do have to make a longer sleeve for the shock. I may have one I can shorten.

With this done I can get the upper shock mount in its correct position and finish weld the frame cross tubes and shock mount.

Pretty cool 👍
The things that we can do now from our computer . Are so far advanced... From where we were when we bought our arzis new or even ten years after they were new.
In sure it was always possible to design and build any part. but the cost, the time and expense and expertise required was absolutely a prohibitive factor.
Now....look what you were able to accomplish !

Thanks questo.
Best part is I’m using current CAD/CAM software with a Bridgeport from the 90’s.

Going from writing g-code “By hand” to having software create it makes a job infinitely easier.

That is pretty damned neat...
That's one of the things I truly wish I had learned....and welding... lol 😄
I had a chance when I was young to trained & work in a machine shop in Burbank..... but didn't even think about it.🙄

I did buy a welder though....will be doing stuff with that.... I have two friends that AR professional welders one did some aerospace work the other is just a talented artist they're going to both help me get to a level where I am proficient with just my projects and if I want to take it from there... we will go there.

I've had it up to my eyeballs... With many of these fabricators, engine builders etc bunch of bitchy, prima donnas.... nothing I need done ( within reason) for my projects that I can't learn to do myself or have people I know help out with. Plenty O' fish in the sea👍🙂

I have a couple motorcycle fabricators that are just dammbed good guys..they I have offered to help.
RGV Steve...got my RZ wheel conversion to about 90%.
I bought another set of Enkei Magteks... So bushings and spacers are going to be in order.

Anyways cool stuff! Keep it coming always great to watch.

You inspired me on a RZ project almost or 20 years ago. !

I think you had the GSXR fork conversion with a blue/black anodized forks? I could be wrong but I remember your old member name and have a few emails from you...and David J, Jason Moffitt ,Wynn etc..

Yes, blue forks from a gsxr750.
I removed the anodize with oven cleaner, sanded until smooth and waxed them.
