83 RZ350 hybrid

#1 Post by 2smokin » Sat Nov 23, 2019 3:54 pm

Hi everyone!! I’m new to the group but have followed this forum for many years
A couple months back I finally got back into the RZ350 game after a 10 year hiatus.

I picked up a 1983 RZ350 hybrid back in late September.
The bike details as previous owner stated were
2003 r1 front end
86 fz600 swingarm

Gord bush ported cylinders at 64.5mm bore actually at 65.5mm
Promod tranny with a N-1-2-3-4-5-6 shift pattern
Pro design head
28mm pwk’s
Vforce 4 reeds
Lock up clutch
Matt shearer custom pipes
Custom rearsets

I have started to gather pieces for this bike, and have started stripping the bike down for a frame up rebuild. As soon as figure out how to upload pictures I’ll Be documenting the build.

Looks like the start of a real nice bike. keep picking away at it, and it will turn out great. You said you were out of the game for ten years, what did you previously have, and why did you sell it off?
tuned to Paris Hilton specs............rich and retarded!

My first street bike was an 88 RZ350 when I was 19, I put 10,000kms on it in two years then I picked up an 84 that was ported and had a tz style full fairing and a fox clicker shock then a few years later I got red and white 87 which I put 7000 Kms on in the year I had it but work got slow and I sold the 87 to buy a truck then shortly after I sold the 88 and the 84. I also had an 81 350 lc that I later picked up as a project, but due to other projects I had on the go at the time I decided to sell it. After building a banshee a couple years ago I havnt stopped thinking about how much fun I used to have on my old rz’s. The smell the looks you get, the rush of a two stroke.

Thanks dude!! Doing a full frame up resto on it with some new mods. Sorry for the upside down photos, I’m not sure why they show up like that.. I’m just resizing go pro photos

Dropped the frame off for powdercoat today. Should have it back next week and then time to start the reassembly.
Polished up the swing arm a bit. An YSS shock will take the stockers place

Yes , many of the 86-87 FZ 600 swingarm conversations used early GSXR caliper & GSXR rear wheel. Also often a GS500 cush drive..... there we were many variables in parts vs FZ,FZR,CBR & GSXR rims on different conversions.
I had this exact setup I sold if a year or two ago. I will try to get to my storage container and get the exact year of the components.
Gord Bush had a pretty good reputation for winning 2 stroke dirtbikes in the Florida area...right?
Rearsets say custom, so they may well be one offs?..I need to look a lil better.
Does your motor utilize the YPVS system or is it deleted? Is it a Banshee engine? Reason I ask is the lock up clutches are usually only drag race or Banshee related.
I know of one vintage race RZ that used Matts pipes and it was really really fast machine, looks as if he's using Toomey silencers...best sounding bar none! He also ran a set of Moto Carrera Millennium GPs and won on those as well, bike was a top end screamer...very fast up top.
28s are a great choice and the V 4s made a good improvement in my 4,mil striker Banshee..some poo poo V force but the dyno didn't lie on set up on my bike. My Banshee is pushing a honest 70 h.p. she's quick for just
a basic stock cylinder cross desert /MX ported 4 mil. And she's been very reliable..(knock on wood)...lol
That's all I can say...You should have a fun machine there...sweet looking bike you have....awesome!
Keep the info coming...really great bike
