350 LC Pro-Am Insanity

#1 Post by Hooligan » Mon Sep 03, 2012 12:54 am

Searching through youtube I came across this. If you've heard the stories of the 1980's RD Cup racing, you have to see this race to believe it. It is 5-8 bikes all going for the lead every turn. Total crazyness that rivals modern Moto2 action. :smt003

Awesome stuff. Alan Carter, had a poster of him on a TZ250 on my bedroom wall 30 odd years ago. Still rolled up somewhere, time to decorate the garage.

Who said all the good stuff is in Canada? Build and sell one bike out of that lot and it's all paid for.

pro am racing was brilliant in the eighties, it was professional riders and the best of the amateur riders all in one series, the bikes didn't belong to the riders, they were totally standard and they were the property of mitsui Yamaha. What happened was at the beginning of the week end they drew keys out of a hat so you could get a fast bike or slow bike, it was just the luck of the draw

I enjoyed the YPVS version as well back in the day. Sitting in the dunes at Zandvoort, watching and listening to Sarron et al was a memory I will never forget. :)

Ohhh! Zandvoort! Great place, designed by the same guy that projected Suzuka and Jarama (in Madrid)

We used to have some stock YPVS series back in the eighties as well, and they have been relaunched few years ago; this has provoked bike's prices to skyrocket, but have recently started returning to normality after the "gold" rush (but still sought after)
