which fiber reed petals model for RD500 cages ?

#1 Post by solex27 » Fri Feb 01, 2008 5:07 am

Hi,

I think this information was already posted but I didn't find it.
My conclusions:
Carbon petals --> too stiff
Boyssen fiber petals --> a big shit
250 TZR 2MA / 125 TZDR/TZR --> width petal too thin.
350 Banchee --> petal too short
250 TZR 3MA --> I think it's possible with light mod.
250 TZR 3XV --> ???.
250 RGV / 250 RS --> I think it's possible with mod.

I put carbon petals on my first engine, but now I think it's not the best choice even in comparison to original steel petals.

So if anybody could help me about...
Thanks
Franck

mbsteve seems to be the authority on this subject so heed his advice when it comes.

I think he recomends an early yz125 petal that you have to cut to suit.

And other interesting info:
Luther wrote:Nice parts Frank. :grin: I know the 500 reed cage is 42mm wide and rz350's are 50mm wide but we didn't get tzr's or lc's over here and i'm looking for the width of those cages. Also the rz350's are shorter than the 500's, can you tell me how the tzr's and lc cages compare in length? I like the idea of going to tzr 6 petals on the lower cylinders and i'm looking for an easy fit to upgrade the uppers at the same time without having to weld up the cylinders.

Also there was a small pic with a comparison of some reed cages, but was so small that is really difficult to see the numbers...

If I don't find through a search I'll try to upload the pic...

mbsteve says the 55y reed, that is for a 1985 yz125 part no. 55y-13613
on a side note its not going to be here tomorrow but there is a v-force style reed with 4 petals per cage being machined as we speak for the 500.... :grin:

Gus,
Thanks for reeds informations. I will try to find these reeds in yamaha dealer.
VMA500,
I already have this reed photo with differents reed cages dimensions, but infortunately not really readable.

I've just bought 2 sets of YZ 125 55Y on Ebay for 28$, shipping cost included ! a good deal...
then I could prepare 2 cages + 1 other with each petal cutted on 2 others. So just 1 set is missing me now.

Hi Gus,

You da man! Is your new v-force style reed set up suitable for stock intakes?

Hi Yordi,

Pretty sure RZ350 & Banshee are exactly the same totally.
