Fairing bolts

#1 Post by Moodeyblue » Fri Feb 26, 2021 8:08 pm

Hi All
I am completing a restoration on my 85 rz350. The fairing had to be repaired and it is now slightly thicker on the right side where the panels mate.
I m trying to use the original style pan head screws but now I need (2) longer ones that need to be 15mm long.
Can anyone help with a part number from YAMAHA for longer screws with the same heads.
If not, are there other options such as a complete set of replacement screws that will look good.

Thanks for your help.

Original hardware. 2 bolts are not long enough after the body work repair.

There's a method to his madness; given the original bolt's part number, you can determine the part number of a bolt of the same type but longer, shorter, etc.

Exactly. I’m trying to figure out which bolts you have. That’ll give us an idea on what you need. Look on Partzilla. Get us the part number

I also assume you mean a non-USA 1985 bike?

Sadly on the fully faired models the bolt parts numbers dont relate to the length as they have special heads. Its only the normal screws and bolts that contain the lengths etc. Makes it harder.

What you can do is buy stainless bolts with larger heads and use those. they come in varying lengths, just get the length you need.

If it is for a US spec RZ, see pic attached. The 06 indicates 6mm size and the 014 indicates 14mm length.

You can buy fairing bolt kits that include many sizes. https://fortnine.ca/en/bolt-fairing-bol ... 09-fairing

You can polish them to match the stock sheen.

Thanks, I found a PN from CMS but I dont think the this PN follows the convention for sizing as listed above. (9011005201).

Does anyone know of 5 mm fasteners from other bikes at that would look similar? I could change the whole set.

thanks everyone for your help.

I'm assuming you meant the smaller panel to panel screws, & not the larger panel to frame ones...
The original 90110-05079 socket head subs to 90110-05201. Unfortunately as mentioned above, the length dimension in the Yamaha part number only applies to standard hardware. On "special hardware", they just go to the next available part-number, so you will have to do some detective work. Check mid '80s FZ & FZR & you might get lucky.
I had a couple of 5x15mm Philips head versions that I believe came from the '85 FZ750, but can't remember for sure.
