Coil compatibility for US Spec 84-5 RZ350

#1 Post by Evans Ward » Wed Aug 04, 2021 2:19 pm

I’m looking at a new replacement coil on eBay for sale by Legends Motorcycles out of the U.K. Does anyone know if this coil would be compatible and function like a stock unit for the 1984-85 US Spec RZ350? I messaged the seller and he said “it should, but please double check”.

I took a chance and went ahead and ordered it. I’ll update as things move forward as the info may help another member.

As long as the resistance is correct for a 2 stroke it should be fine.

I used a Banshee OEM coil.

That’s good to know Kobra and had thought about the Banshee’s coil compatibility. I have a couple or so used OEM RZ350 coils but need to get out the manual on how to test them hopefully doable out the bike.

I throw in a Dyna coil on all my bikes, Don't know if it actually makes a difference, but its new and a well proven coil..

I received it but didn’t open it as I had decided to return it as bought on eBay. I have several stock coils but also ordered a new mini Dyna and RZ installation kit from John at Economy Cycle. I did have the Dyna w/ RZ350 installation kit several years ago but someone made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and sold it. I have 2 new sets of the Dyna wires so will set up a set each on the Dyna coil for both resistor and non-resistor plugs. The NGK B8ES non-resistor plugs are being phased out but I have a good supply on hand of both B8ES and BR8ES. John at Economy Cycle has a great selection of parts with really good prices so I recommend we support his business as he supports us!

BTW, does anyone know where one can find the factory connector style male plug used on the factory coil? I’ve got one that has that connector missing.
