That's rare, but it happens.

Find a yamaha key that fits in the lock (they are A thru F shapes, look that up on here), strip it apart and adjust the tumblers (again info is out there, no sense repeating it) and you'll have a working lock with a yamaha key.

So if I don’t find the key; does anyone know how to get the fuel filler cap off?

I think you will find the number on top of the lock, take it off the triple clamp. Any competent locksmith should be able to make a key with that number.

Well the lock is open, I picked it and it was surprisingly easy. I’m not sure how to get it any further apart than this in order to re-key it, any hints?

To rekey something you need a cut key, not a blank.

The blanks will help tho, they will tell you what type of key you need A-F. Then find an original key of that letter (lots of ebay with lock sets) and play with the tumblers to make it work. Lots of info out there about rekeying, its fiddly but rewarding.

I think with a vernier caliper and some jewelers files I can cut a key to match the existing lock

Remove the tumblers. Insert any key you have. Move the tumblers until you find a combination that allows the tumblers to stay retracted with the key inserted. Use as many as you can make fit. Often you'll get at least 3 that will work. The others you don't need. Or do as I do and simply remove all of the tumblers so it will work with any key.

Do the other locks the same way. It's easy to do.
